A passport is a public document proving identity and citizenship of BiH. A BiH citizen may only possess one passport of the same type. A passport may only be used by the person in whose name it was issued. The legal deadline for issuing a passport is 30 days, except for passports issued through diplomatic and consular missions, in which case the deadline is 60 days.
A biometric or electronic passport is a document that contains elements of protection against forgery and an electronic chip that allows for identity verification based on the physiological characteristics of a person who has been subjected to a control.
An application for the issuance of a passport is submitted to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the HNŽ/K-Department for Administration and Support in the municipality of residence. List of headquarters addresses
The passport holder is obliged to report the loss, destruction or theft of the passport to the competent police body in the territory where the passport was lost.
To issue a passport to an adult, the following is required:
Application (it is mandatory to state the place and municipality of entry in the birth registry and the book of citizens of BiH),
ID card or other public document from which the identity, residence and citizenship of BiH can be determined,
Passport (unless it has been stolen or lost)
Proof of payment of the passport issuance fee in the amount of 50.00 KM, or the passport issuance fee in the amount of 50.00 KM and the fee of 200.00 KM if it concerns the issuance of urgent passports that are issued at the request of the party within 72 hours.
To issue a passport to a minor, the following are required:
Application (it is mandatory to state the place and municipality of entry in the birth registry and the registry of citizens of BiH),
Extract from the birth registry,
Certificate of citizenship of BiH (if the child was born outside the territory of BiH),
Passport
Passport for citizens aged 3-18 with a validity period of 5 years – proof of payment of 40.00 KM,
Passport for citizens under 3 years of age with a validity period of 3 years – proof of payment of 30.00 KM
Consent of both parents, except:
if the child is without both parents, attach a death certificate of the other parent,
if the child is without both parents, attach the consent of the guardian,
if one of the parents is prevented from signing the consent on the application, he/she may submit a written consent signed and certified by the competent authority,
if the court decision on granting custody does not make the issuance of a passport conditional on the consent of both parents,
If the court's decision on granting custody makes the issuance of a passport conditional on the consent of both parents, the competent authority will request a written statement from the other parent who has not been granted custody of the minor to give consent to the issuance of a passport.
If the residence or place of residence of the other parent is unknown, the competent authority will conduct checks through records and resolve the request in accordance with the checks.
If the minor for whom the application for the issuance of a passport is submitted was born out of wedlock, and the other parent refuses to give consent to the issuance of a passport, the competent authority will request a written opinion from the competent social welfare service on the justification for issuing a passport without the consent of the other parent, and resolve the request in accordance with the said opinion.
