An identity card is a public document proving identity, the fact of place and date of birth, permanent residence, or temporary residence for a displaced person, and citizenship of BiH.
Every citizen over 18 years of age, with permanent residence in BiH, is required to have an identity card issued in the place of permanent residence.
An identity card may also be issued to a citizen over 15 years of age and under 18 years of age who has permanent residence in BiH upon personal request and upon request of his/her parent or other duly authorized legal representative.
The deadline for submitting an application for the issuance of an identity card is 60 days after reaching the age of 18 or 60 days after permanently settling in BiH if he/she has reached the age of 18.

Issuance of the first ID card:
To issue the first ID card, you will need:
application (obtained at the location - free of charge),
birth certificate
certificate of citizenship,
proof of payment of the fee for issuing an identity card in the amount of 18.00 KM.
Replacing your ID card
To replace your ID card you will need:
application (obtained at the location - free of charge),
previous ID card,
proof of payment of the ID card issuance fee in the amount of 18.00 KM.
Replacement of an ID card issued with a validity period of 2 years - for displaced persons:
To replace an ID card, you will need:
application (obtained at the location - free of charge),
registration of permanent residence (obtained at the location - free of charge),
previous ID card,
certificate of recognized status of displaced person (not older than 6 months,
obtained from the competent municipal authority),
proof of payment of the fee for issuing an ID card in the amount of 18.00 KM.
The ID card must be replaced:
if the validity period has expired,
in the event of a change of residence (or temporary residence for displaced persons),
if there has been a change in the data about the holder of the ID card stated on it,
if the data on the ID card is incorrect or incorrectly entered,
if the ID card is damaged or for other reasons the data is not readable to such an extent that the ID card cannot serve its purpose,
when the appearance of the ID card holder has changed so much that it no longer matches the photograph on the ID card.
At the request of the citizen, the information on blood type and entity citizenship will be entered in the identity card.
The identity card can be collected in person, through a proxy or by mail.
A citizen who has lost his identity card or has had it stolen, destroyed or in any other way lost it is obliged to report this fact without delay to the nearest police station or competent authority.
If a citizen has lost his identity card or has had it stolen, destroyed, etc., he is obliged to enclose a decision of the Department for Administration and Support canceling the identity card.
If a citizen who has been issued a new identity card on the basis of the above, subsequently comes into possession of the previous identity card, he is obliged to immediately hand over that identity card to the nearest competent authority.
